WebJun 5, 2024 · The whole fan assembly clips onto the heatsink. In theory, you could take it off without taking the heatsink off, but it's not easy. It's clipped on there pretty good. I would listed to others and try to take the HSF off instead. I usually take off the retaining clip and start to slowly twist the HSF off the CPU, rather than pulling it upwards.
