WebPlaying middle D with only the palm key produces a much brighter, less "stuffy" sound, but is often very put of tune (very flat on my horn). Try playing middle D the normal way (fingers 1-6, octave key) but then add the palm D key as well. It's a more cumbersome fingering, but for a very bright D that is not that hard to tune it works well.

WebLoosen up your embouchure. If you’re biting/applying too much pressure the notes will come out higher. And more air. Sax is just as much about abdominal and peritoneal muscle control as embouchure control. For those low octave notes, you'll need to "force some big air" from tightening these muscles quickly.
